Actually, broadening/improving one's language skills is a very broad concept, it should be done in more than one ways at the same time which is highly recommended. One can NOT become better ONLY in one area, say, speaking, one MUST improve skills in ALL dimensions of the language! Learning language well requires being as active as possible and making the learning as FUN for oneself as possible. Taking lessons is always important, but equally important are these: 1) Listen/watch: Keep listening to internet radio stations like BBC, watch TV shows in English (use only subtitles, NOT voice dubbing in case you are not a native English speaker!), etc. 2) Write/communicate: Try to find discussion forums from the web about things that you find interesting and FUN (music/various artists, hobbies, etc.) and start communicating there with other people using only English. Start using instant messaging systems in case you find some new friends or start emailing them. Please do NOT be afraid of making mistakes or hesitating, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times! The more you enjoy communicating, the better! 3) Buy yourself a proper dictionary, and each time when you see a strange word that you do not understand, look it up. Putting words into their CONTEXT is one of the best ways to broaden one's vocabulary and grammar knowledge, the more you read and write the better. Memorising is NOT the best way to go with learning vocabulary, grammar or any other language areas! For idioms, you should buy an all-English dictionary which explains the words in English and shows you examples of how to use the words. The main point in ANY language learning is to make it as fun as possible for yourself. Try to find topics that INTEREST you, read online newspapers (Times, Guardian, Independent...), listen to BBC/NBC and other radio stations online, if you find a discussion forum for e.g. your favourite hobby or your idols in music do participate there, etc. The key word here is CONTEXT, which means that it is easier to learn new words and their usage as well as grammar when you use/see them in their real CONTEXT. The more you see and hear the new words in their context and the more you use them in your speech & writing, the easier it becomes to remember their meanings and correct spelling. Do NOT be afraid of making mistakes though, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times! I'm sorry there is NO EASY WAY out with this, one really must develop language skills in ALL these language "levels" or dimensions in order to reach better language skills!! Last but not least: NEVER EVER use ANY online translators, they are nothing but utter rubbish!! English is practically EVERYWHERE in the online world these days, you just have to use your imagination to find it! Learning pace is always personal, it takes the time it takes so there is no reason to hurry it up too much. If you do, you will not learn so well. Also, please learn the basics of the standard English first before advancing to finer details like dialects/accents. A word of warning though: Do stay well away from overrated, overpriced and overhyped language "gimmicks" such as Rosetta Stone, they really are NOT worth for checking out! Good luck!

What percentage of brazil live in slums

What percentage of brazil live in slums?
I have Geography homework and I can't find it anywhere on the internet apart from this one site that said: In the two largest cities, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, a third of the people, it is said, live in slums. I kind of need the percentage for ALL of Brazil, though if Im Desperate, I will put that above. Thank you. I don't need anymore answers. much appreciated. My Homework is Completed :)

approx. 18% (i'm betting, but judging from your evidence it may be 25%)

Don't believe in the first answer. That that is a total absurd. Sorry but, you have accepted so quick that seems like if you are just waiting an answer from any citizen of your own country to believe in it. Where 18% of Brazilian population lives in slums? This means almost 34 million. RI-DI-CU-LE!! This guy pictured a slum-nation. The GDP of Brazil is largest than 2 trillion (Canada and Italy, both in G7 , are about the same gross product) and we have million of good houses/apartments for middle class and mansions for high class. How almost 1/5 of population are living in slums? Based on this answer, anybody will imagine Brazil as a typical third World nation. You need more (true) information. You need to know with your own eyes how Brazil is. So, visit please, my Youtube channel and watch my favorit videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/AllAboutBrazil If you don't wanna make a wrong homework, search for more information. If you don't believe in Brazilians, believe, at least, in your owngovernmentt. See the CIA's factbook:

2 :
dude your parents are dueshes wat kind of prick moves to brazil . well since you are in south america i guess the tickets might range from $1000-$1500 depends where you are going
3 :
That's too bad maybe try to get a job and save up money for a ticket and your visa and to live off of when you come back to the USA.
4 :
You only have a few options ... 1. Get a job, save money ... takes awhile 2. Ask close family or friends to help ... most will not have the money or desire to get involved 3. Try an exchange student program
5 :
Get a job or ask another family member to help you

Man, that sucks. How old are you? Are you too young to live by yourself? If so, that's probably why. Don't get dramatic quite yet though, Brazil is a lovely place, a vacation hotspot to most, just try to make some friends and learn Portuguese or something. That'll keep you busy, and being bilingual these days is a MAJOR plus anyways, so might as well! But honestly... just get a job. You'll have enough money in a year or less. Answer mine? It sorta reminds me of this one. :) Thanks. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApeMCawC7Pq5V7DOKCwzGBvty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100802003618AA9XrkM

if I send you the money, will you promise me 10% interest per year, even if you have to get a job to pay it off? then maybe we got a deal, I post my financial info on the Internet with the understanding that only you use it. we trust others not to. then I look forward to my 10%. is this a good idea? will it make me rich? you're not a very entertaining troll by the way.
9 :
Even if you got an airplane ticket and a visa, how will you support yourself when you arrive in the USA ? You did not mention your age, so I am not sure if you could get a job ? Where will you live ? How will you feed yourself ? You need to think about all of these things before you make a definitive move. Peace.
10 :
talk to a family member about moveing to the USA ik how u felt i had to go back to my home in Des Moines Iowa b.c i felt home sick. just talk it out with your parents and another family member that maybe lives in the USA, hang in there kid life isnt all that great but u have to live each day to the fullest stop sulking in the dark b/c ur home sick and get out there and try to make money, and talk to ur parents
