I want to move next year, but I am a US Citizen so is there any way I can live in Brazil?
Please give me a lot of details of how a US citizen can live in Brazil, thank you and if you happen to know any areas that are safe, fun and inexpensive please let me know too my friends from Brazil told me I could get a job teaching English, what kinds of jobs could someone get that doesn't speak Brazilian Portuguese?

You would have to apply for a work/residence visa. The Embassy website has absolutely no visa info on it. The site below has contact info for the Consulates of Brazil in the U.S. You will need to contact the closest one and ask about visa information.

I'm American, I've only been to Brazil a few times never lived there, would love to tho. Anyway back to the question. First off, you'd need the obvious: Visa & Passport. You can't get into Brazil without a Visa and you'll have to pay an entrance fee which I remember correctly is like $150. Next is there is no such thing as a "safe" place, anywhere! That goes for America as well, something bad happening can happen on any given day. But some of the more "safer" places in Brazil would probably be: Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre (In my opinion). You could teach English down there, but you have to know Portuguese, I mean how else would you talk to the class, who are there to learn English and who only know Portuguese? You could also be a tour guide in Rio, most tourist speak English. How a U.S. citizen can live in Brazil is by being smart and not dumb. Don't be perverted towards the pretty girls and you should be good in that area. Don't flash your money around and act rich or better than them, and you'll be fine. Remember Brazilians are among the friendliest in the world if not the friendliest. They are accepting of anybody, but take crap from nobody. They are very passionate about there country, and they are fine with you being passionate about yours, just as long as you don't belittle theirs. Use common sense and you'll be good. I wish I lived there but I still have a few more years to go before I will.

Well, I think Richard has already said everything I would say to you. Just one more thing, if you wanna be an English Teacher you must know some Portuguese. I'm a Language School owner in Brazil and if you want, we can teach you some Portuguese via Skype. It's not that difficult.

I've been looking into moving to Brasil as well, and I've heard Florianapolis is also very safe and gorgeous (my choice), as well a blumenau, and mostly anything outside the large cities. Marry a Brazilian and have a child! Brazilian laws protect to the most foreigners who have children in Brazil. They could not even take Mr Ronald Biggs (from the Great Train Robbery) from Brazil because he had a son here! Well, about speaking Portuguese, that is not a thing that is totally needed for the beginning. But if you want to live here, why not to learn the language? You could come first to give English classes. I'm sure some schools will accept you. About safety, forget all the bad news. In despite of crimes, Brazilian people is good, friendly and honest in everywhere here. If you are in fact coming to live, you will learn how to keep yourself far from troubles. Well, I'm Brazilian and I agree with the others. You should know some Portuguese, it's not that complicated. Talking about the "safe areas" to live, if that's really a worry, you shouldn't look for big cities like São Paulo, Rio, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Belem etc, they are all big and have everything you need, but also have the problems that come with it. I recomend midsize cities, like Florianopolis, Londrina, Joinville, Maringa, Presidente Prudente, Blumenau, among others. But they're all different cities, so you should determine your preferences first.

every city in Brazil is exactly the same, they all got good areas they all got crime they all look the same, farm country looks different than the beach but the people and the way they live is exactly the same , trust me ive been coming here for like 20 years and the people haven't evolved one bit. you wont teach english unless you speak portuguese, schools wont even hire you and if they do all they will pay you is 10 reals per hour. teach private and youll make money, but not enough to survive on. minimum wage here is like 600 reals and thats living poor so... when i live on the beach im a outdoor guide then when i live in Sao Paulo i teach english. do you know where you will live ?? that makes a big difference. when you first get here you will need dollars from the states. i use citibank and they pretty good about fees, its the banks here that get you for changing dollars everybody here is gana try to hustle you so you have to learn the language, they think you a stupid gringo but they still believe in the jewish history book "bible" so..... child prostitution is "okay" here so...... aaannnndddd its okay to marry a 13 year old if your 50 i swear.... the society here has no problem with it and thats a fact, ive seen it with my own eyes many times. nobody here speaks english, lots of people know a lil but nobody speaks it. speaking english out loud here is for those looking for attention. the coolest place is the beach, the foods cheaper, rents cheaper, and you got the beach 10 minutes walking distance, no wheres more beautiful in this country than the beach.
